COACHEES CASE STUDIES

All it takes is a spark!

COACHEE 1 – CAREER STARTER

“I hoped to achieve a strategy for completing my Masters dissertation and some clarity of the issues involved.

My emotional life is bound to my professional / academic output. I was worried that Sarah would be scared of my emotional reactions and find me ridiculous.”

“I began with an academic agenda on a highly specific topic with which I was tying myself in knots.

Sarah built my confidence by showing me I had all the tools I needed. She led me beyond the submission of the dissertation and into creating professional goals and identifying fears in this field that could be addressed.”

“As a result of coaching I have made steps into a freelance career in heritage that many people told me wouldn’t be possible without a more built-up CV. I also finished my dissertation with more clarity and motivation.

I have learnt how to identify my skills more effectively, which has translated into confidence and an ability to put myself forward in a professional context. I have also learnt more how to structure my professional goals and be strategic in reaching for them.”

“… I wasn’t sure what was important and Sarah helped me clarify my priorities and then how to manage them”

COACHEE 2 – CONFIDENCE AT WORK

Change in the workplace can be hard to cope with and for managers, the effects of change on them and on the staff demand considerable resilience.

My coachee was feeling her resilience had been eroded and her confidence shaken by changes in personnel while she was on secondment, which had caused shifts in the office environment. She wanted to rebuild her confidence to be able to manage challenges and challenging people.

Each coaching session has focused on a particular workplace relationship and explored ways in which she can understand the other party better, and develop positive ways of managing potential conflict situations.

Some of the tools in her resilience toolkit that she now has include:

  • Using positivity in the workplace to change the tone and atmosphere of meetings
  • Making clear her boundaries
  • Managing staff through their strengths

Future coaching sessions will follow the coachee’s agenda, as always, in addressing her concerns around confidence in leadership.

COACHEE 3 – PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

“I hoped to gain a fresh perspective from reflecting on my work and its direction with a neutral, understanding and honest coach.

The only fear I had was related to the confidentiality of the coaching process. This was quickly laid to rest as the Authentic Spark is very professional and provides a space of trust for sharing thoughts.”

“My focus was on future direction as I was in a process of flux between one job ending and another potentially starting. I want to know if it was right for me and where my next professional development step should be.”

“As a result of coaching I have happily transitioned from the end of one job contract, which I was worried about leaving due to lack of cover after I left, into a new job with new opportunities. I’m also more actively working on my CPD.

A better understanding of what I enjoy about my work and more confidence in my choices of work. I also found some great places to have a cup of tea and cake! All the sessions were in non-museum locations which I found very beneficial as a step away from the work environment.”
